Umahi stops govt officials’ salaries for lateness


The Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, on Monday stopped the October salaries of several top government functionaries for lateness.


Those affected included the newly appointed 13 local government caretaker committee chairmen, the 64 Development Center Coordinators, the Deputy Chief of Staff office to the Deputy Governor, Prof. Fidelix Okpata and the Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Clement Nweke.


Others are -the state Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Ogodo Ali, that of Economic Empowerment and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Sabinus Nwankwegu and his Youth and Sports counterpart Mr. Charles Akpuenika.


Commissioners for Agriculture, Hon Uchenna Orji and his Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters counterpart, Barr, Samuel Okoronkwo were also affected.


Umahi also suspended the salaries of some Personal Assistants, Senior Special Assistants, Special Advisers and other government functionaries.


The punishment was for their lateness to the School debate on government anti corruption crusade and its internally generated revenue drive held at the Akanu Ibiam International Conference Center Abakaliki.


The governor added that those affected would also forfeit their September overhead.
