The wife of the Niger State governor Dr. Amina Abubakar Bello Monday decried the increase in the rate of abandoned babies across the country.
She said the act is the worst crime against humanity.
Dr. Bello expressed this concern when she inspected the orphanage facility in Minna, the state capital.
The first lady advised those in the habit of abandoning innocent babies to desist and emphasised that the act has repercussion that would hunt those who engaged in the “inhuman and ungodly” act.
She faulted the excuse of economic hardship in the country being advanced by perpetrators and maintained that nothing on earth justifies throwing away babies.
The governor’s wife then urged parents to be patient, saying that things will improve in the coming days and weeks.
The wife of the Governor also advised people who are not capable of taking care of the needs of the babies to avoid having them as there are no laws that say that one must have children.
She further stated that there are legal and medically approved ways to avoid getting pregnant if people are not capable of taking care of the children.
She urged sexually active Nigerians to live up to their responsibilities to ensure the reduction of abandoned babies across the country.
