A security guard who slashed his colleague’s throat with a razor blade has been sentenced to two weeks community service at the Ikorodu General Hospital, Lagos.
The prosecutor, Police Corporal Kemi Adeniran, told an Ikorodu Magistrate’s Court on Monday that at about 6:30am on May 2, the 25-year-old Abubakar Seidu attacked one Kabiru Haruna with a razor blade.
Haruna, who was sleeping at the time, was cut on the neck.
They were both security guards at Lobowo’s House, opposite Chief Japheth’s House, Rabaka, Owode-Ibeshe, Ikorodu.
Their employer, Mrs. Ade Ogungbemi, who witnessed the fight that broke out afterwards, reported the matter to the police at the Shagamu Road Division, Ikorodu, and the accused was arrested.
At his first arraignment on May 4, the defendant pleaded guilty to a one count charge of wounding, an offence punishable under Section 244 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2011 and was remanded in prison custody.
He was again produced in court Monday by the Investigative Police Officer, Corporal Dogo Akeem, for facts and sentencing.
Upon a plea for leniency by the defendant’s counsel, the Magistrate, Mrs. A Oshodi-Makanju, ruled that since the defendant had already spent three months in prison, he will be sentenced to community service.
He was ordered to clean the hospital for two weeks.
